“We get a lot of positive feedback from visitors and employees. And the solar panels have a good yield.”
A sustainable bicycle shelter with a beautiful look and a roofed terrace.
A robust green bicycle shelter with three functions: to store, to charge and to have lunch. Can withstand heavy rain and is extra cost-effective thanks to glass-glass panels, hardwood screens, a shade management system and rainwater drainage.
Meppel-based Boom b.v., supplier of over 60,000 different laboratory products, is actively working to make the company and the world around it increasingly sustainable. With that in mind, it was now time to replace the existing bicycle shelter with a sustainable version. Director Floris Boom: ‘We wanted a sustainable bicycle shelter with a great appearance. We also wanted an extra canopy for our terrace, which would allow us to sit under it in both summer and winter with a cup of coffee or lunch.’
For Boom, we created a beautiful green bicycle shelter, a charging station for bicycles and cars and a covered seating area. The solar parking area adjoins the parking lot with charging stations. Here, employees and visitors effortlessly charge their electric cars directly from the sun. The central part of the bikeport provides a dry and cool place for bicycles. Wall sockets in the interior space can be used to charge e-bikes in one simple click. The durable hardwood screens all around give the sturdy canopy an extra nice look and make it pleasant to park in. To the right, the bicycle shelter is extended with a solar panel canopy with benches underneath for a nice place to sit for coffee or lunch.
Everything is finished with an eye for detail and safety. The steel structure is hot-dip galvanised, the glass-glass panels are translucent, fireproof and hail-resistant. The panels are connected to a shadow management system, the roof is waterproof and equipped with rainwater drainage. Robust and beautiful to look at.
The solar bicycle shelter generates about 15,000 kWh per year. ‘We get a lot of positive feedback from both our staff and visitors. The bicycle shelter also really looks beautiful. The solar panels have a good yield. Together with the solar panels on the roof of our building, we cover a large part of our consumption with clean energy.’
Boom looks back on the cooperation with us with satisfaction: ‘the coordination with E-ports went smoothly and the installation also was really fast.’
