URBZ Capital has a large portfolio of last mile properties including the Celsiusbaan location in Nieuwegein. Last mile stands for the last part of the delivery chain. From last mile locations, products are transported to the end user.
Partner and technical manager Floris Buné: ‘We were looking for a solar carport for the Celsiusbaan location in Nieuwegein to generate green and reusable energy. Putting solar panels on the roof of the building was not an option and we soon knew that we could get more use out of the terrain with a solar carport.’
Besides the minimum power of green energy to be generated, the carport had to be spacious enough to park vans underneath. The appearance of the carport was of lesser importance, as the car park cannot be seen from the public road.
E-ports installed a sturdy and robust canopy with solar panels over 15 parking spaces. This provides the site with some 40,000 kWh per year in green energy, which is used for a portion of the logistics operations in the building.
‘The carport does exactly what it is supposed to do. We generate green energy and save on electricity costs. The cooperation with E-Ports also went well. We are very satisfied with this carport. I would definitely recommend other companies to invest in a solar carport, provided of course they manage to make the business case,’ Floris concludes.
